About a month ago I posted some questions to hopefully generate some thought and to be a guide for me as together we start this new season of ministry at Lakeway UMC. I want to say thank you to everyone who took a moment to send me your thoughts and answers for these questions. Today, I wanted to offer a bit of a summary of the answers I received. And, if you weren’t able to answer these questions previously, but would like to now, here is your chance.
1) - What do you love about Lakeway? The consensus from the folks who answered this was that you love the people and the desire/heart to be a church that is reaching people in our community and beyond.
2) - What is missing from Lakeway? Again, the consensus is that we are missing children, youth and young families.
3) - Who is Lakeway in the community? We are a church known for our involvement, service, mission, friendly and welcoming spirit, and for being associated with the Resale Barn.
4) - What are you afraid I might do? Answers ranged from no fears to fear of being controlling, fear that people will resist changes, a lack of involvement with the church, and falling into complacency.
5) - In five years I hope Lakeway will be...Primarily we want to be growing as a congregation and to be a beacon of hope to the growing Texoma community. .
6) - What is your God-sized dream for Lakeway? Expansion both of members and facilities; a love of God and others that is so evident and profound that people are drawn to it like moths to a flame; continuing to make disciples as we model grace and holiness; all while finding new ways of reaching people and being the Church.
We continue to be a church who desires to extend the love and grace of God to the people of our community. That we will recognize both the obligation and opportunity to make disciples of Jesus for the transformation of the world. And to be a beacon of hope in the ever growing, expanding, and evolving Texoma community, by being a model of grace and holiness as we find new ways to love and serve both God and our neighbors. The foundation has been poured, and our job is to continue building on that foundation. I am excited to partner with you as we do this work together.
If you would like to respond to the questions above with your own .05₵ (since we’re doing away with pennies), you can email me answers at pastorblake@lakewayumc.org.
Grace & Peace y’all
