Frankly Speaking — December 1, 2025
Titus 2:10–11 (NRSV) 10 “…show complete and perfect fidelity, so that in everything they may be an ornament to the doc-trine of God our Savior.” 11 “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all.”
Friends and family of Lakeway United Methodist Church–Pottsboro, grace and God’s peace to you and yours in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
If this Christmas season we are fortunate to have a Christmastree, most likely you will have ornaments. Most ornaments tell stories—stories of people, places, and events. Edna always made it a pointto have a new ornament each year, especially with our children’snames on their first Christmas. Every household has its own unique traditions. Over our 41 years of marriage, we have collected many ornaments, Nativity scenes, and memories.
Recently I came across an ornament celebrating teachers that read: “God Bless Teachers: For they take a hand, open a mind, and touch a heart.” No truer words have ever been written. I have been blessed with great teachers who were patient, loving, kind—and disciplinarians. Yes, corporal punishment was alive and well during my school years, from first grade through senior high. Love and discipline are inseparable. My sister Virginia was a teacher. Many folks in Lakeway Church are active and retired teachers. All servedwith distinctions.May this season be filled with cherished memories and the making of new ones. We will belighting the Advent candles, singing special music, going Christmas caroling, and celebrating God’s promises:
Emmanuel—God with us.
