“Moses, Exodus, and the Call”
Read Exodus 4:10–17 (NRSV)

“But Moses said to the LORD, ‘O my Lord, I have never been eloquent... I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.’ Then the LORD said to him, ‘Who gives speech to mortals?... Is it not I, the LORD? Now go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to speak.’”

Friends and Family of Lakeway United Methodist Church–Pottsboro, grace and peace in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Beginning in Exodus chapter 3, Moses encounters the angel of the Lord in a flame of fire within a bush. God calls out, “Moses, Moses!” and instructs him to remove his sandals, for the ground is holy. That sacred moment begins a new season in Moses’ life — a divine calling to lead God’s people: “So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” (3:10) Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

Many of us have asked, “What am I meant to do?” Some discover their purpose early; others, like me, take a few detours — perhaps through science or another field — only to find that God had other plans all along. Yesterday, a young man came to church wearing a T-shirt that read, “Trust in the Lord” with Proverbs 3:5–6 on the back — one of my favorite verses. It reminds me that even when life feels uncertain, God still directs our paths. Wherever you are in life, God has a plan for you. You may not encounter a burning bush or a blinding light on the road to Damascus, but God still calls each of us to serve. If you belong to Christ, He can use your gifts to build His Kingdom.
