Proverbs 17:22 (NRSV)
22 A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones.
Psalm 51:10-13 (NRSV)
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.
Friends and Family of Lakeway United Methodist Church–Pottsboro, grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
We all have “bad days.” Maybe your pet misses the backyard. Maybe a deposit is late, causing an overdraft. Maybe your car breaks down, or a health concern shakes your world. Bad days happen—often without warning.
I try to live by this simple truth: You cannot control every event, but you can control your reaction.
Proverbs 17:22 reminds us of the goal: a cheerful heart. Psalm 51:10-13 shows us how to get there—it begins with a conversation with God, asking for something only He can give: a clean heart and a right spirit. God did it once—He can do it again.
“God, you know my heart. I long for joy and hope. I’ve felt downcast, anxious, and lost in dark valleys. Yet you promise life and light.”
We call on God’s grace through Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit. Hope is always present. As the hymn says, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness” (UMH 368).
So ask boldly. Trust God to bless you far beyond your imagination. A cheerful heart is waiting.
Blessings from Pottsboro,
Pastor Frank
